We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Controller to lead our financial strategies. In this pivotal role, you will ensure robust fiscal management and compliance while driving initiatives that enhance system efficiencies and reduce emissions across California. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping our financial landscape and supporting our mission to create sustainable, high-performance facilities.
What Success Looks Like:
- Accurate Financial Reporting: Deliver timely and precise financial statements in alignment with US GAAP, providing clear insights into the company's financial health.
- Effective Project Accounting: Implement and manage Percentage of Completion (PoC) accounting methodologies, ensuring accurate project forecasting and resource allocation.
- Strategic Financial Planning: Collaborate with project managers to develop precise job cost forecasts, enhancing financial predictability and project success.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all financial activities comply with relevant laws and regulations, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
- Team Leadership: Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Financial Oversight: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
- Project Accounting: Oversee the construction project accounting process from initiation to completion, including preparation and analysis of month-end reporting (WIP reports, over/under, gross margin, revenue recognition, and projections).
- Audit Coordination: Partner with external auditors to support annual audit procedures, ensuring timely communication and accurate documentation.
- Transaction Management: Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, job costing, general ledger, contracts management, and purchasing functions to optimize financial operations.
- Performance Analysis: Maintain KPI dashboards and lead monthly analytical processes to assess operational and financial performance, providing actionable insights for improvement.
- Team Development: Supervise and mentor a team of 4-8 accounting professionals, promoting professional growth and development.
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Support the annual budgeting process, including preparation and consolidation of budget requests, analytics, and presentations for management review.
- System Implementation: Assist in the deployment of new ERP systems and financial software tools to modernize and scale business operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; CPA certification highly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction or engineering industries.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606, with a solid understanding of percentage of completion accounting.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a rigorous and methodical approach to financial management.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all company functions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with Sage 300 CRE, IFS, or OneStream is a plus.
Location: Long Beach, California. In office 3 days per week.
